The Student Chapter of the National Art Education Association Constitution
Article I – Name
The name of the organization shall be known as the North Texas National Art Education Association.
Article II – Purpose
The purposes of this organization are:
1. To provide a smooth transition from art education preparation to professional practice.
2. To raise and maintain a high standard of quality of art education on campus and in the community.
3. To gain greater insight and perspective about the teaching of art and contemporary concepts in art education.
4. To sponsor field trips and speakers that will expand the professional understanding of art education in Texas and throughout the nation.
5. To promote an exchange of ideas between other art education institutions of higher education.
Article III – Membership
- Section 1 - Membership in this organization shall be open to all individuals interested in art education.
- Section 2 Members shall be required to maintain the minimum grade average required by the school for the teacher education program.
- Section 3 Members shall be required to contribute in time and labor to the promotion of art education on campus and in the community by attending a majority of meetings and events.
- Section 4 Members shall be entitled to all the privileges of student membership in the National Art Education Association.
- Section 5 Members shall be required to contribute $6.00 in dues per long semester towards the student chapter. Membership with the NAEA and TAEA is strongly recommended. Students receive a reduced fee for national and state membership.
Article IV – Officers
- Section 1-Individuals who are being considered for an officer position should exemplify qualities becoming a leader such as dedication and passion for arts advocacy, dependability, and personal motivation. You may only be nominated for an officer position if you have had an active membership for a semester. The President and Vice President shall be former active officers in the organization for a semester prior to assuming office.
- Section 2-Officers must be in attendance at seventy-five percent of all meetings and events, or your position will be revoked by mid-semester.
President:
The President is the face and voice of the organization and should be someone always looking to better the organization. They look for future opportunities to represent the organization and give back to the community. This is the person who listens to the needs of the group and tries to accommodate those needs. They also delegate specific duties and facilitate the democracy of the organization throughout the decision making process.
Vice President:
The Vice President assists the President in keeping relations with the University and the SAO office. They also guide the president in delegations and act as President if President is not present at an event or activity.
Secretary:
The Secretary documents each meeting both member and officer and sends notes via email to those the members and officers. They also handle the member attendance through the use of sign in sheets and are also in charge of updating email lists after every meeting. They also handle any member emails and updates that will be sent out.
Historian:
The Historian documents events and activities through attending and photographing events. They also are held responsible for keeping the scrapbook up to date at the end of the semester. They also handle flyers for all meetings and events except the Art Show(s). They are also in charge of P.R. in relation to area newspapers, etc. They also keep the bulletin board up to date and fresh.
Treasurer/Fundraising Chair:
The Treasure/Fundraising Chair keeps track of the organization’s financial resources. They also are in charge of recruiting donations for future use via letters or in person.
Web Master:
The Web Master keeps the website up to date with information on current and future events as well as photos from previous events and activities. They should handle the Facebook and Myspace accounts for the student chapter.
Art Show Coordinator:
The Art Show Coordinator is responsible for acquiring a location for the student chapter semester show and aspects that are involved with the Art Show(s) such as flyers, poster, show card, opening reception, call for and collecting submissions, etc. They are not required to complete each of these individually but are required to specify someone to handle each if they will not be doing it themselves.
While each officer position does have specific duties it is understood that each officer should take ownership of the organization as a whole and offer their talents when they see a need that they feel should be met.
- Section 3 The executive board shall consist of the officers and advisors of the organization. The executive board shall plan the program for the semester.
- Section 4 Officers for the following semester shall be elected at the last meeting of each semester. Nominations will be made from the floor. Only members in good standing may participate. All dues must be paid for the long semester to be a member in good standing.
Article V – Meetings
- Section 1 Regular meeting s will be held at least three times during the semester. Meeting dates will be posted on bulletin boards throughout the Art Department, announced in classes, and/or by electronic mail.
- Section 2 The Executive Committee may call special meetings.
Article VI – Quorum
- One half of the qualified voting members shall constitute a quorum.
Article VII – Amendments
- Section 1 This constitution or parts thereof may be amended at any meeting preceded by a presentation of proposed changes to all members and by a two-thirds majority vote of all members.
- Section 2 By laws may be adopted, amended, or repealed at any meeting by a majority of members present.
